Getting started with FlinSift
Record decisions, review what happened, and learn from your own data. A short guide to what Beta offers today — not investment advice or buy/sell signals.
This guide is public. Workspace links require sign-in, or open the available demo screen in Guest mode.
Getting started
- Trading and Investing — one product, two workspaces
- Trading is for planning trades and reviewing performance and behavior. Investing is for holdings, transactions, cash, and long-term theses. Use the top portfolio selector to work in the right context.
- Start with a portfolio
- Create a Trading or Investing portfolio with the appropriate currency and opening balance. A specific portfolio shows its own data; Trading and Investing overviews stay separate. Do not treat balances in different currencies as one total.
- Demo and Guest
- Demo portfolios contain fictional data, separate from account data. Beta Guest is a temporary demo experience with no cloud or account persistence. To keep personal records, sign in and select a non-Demo portfolio.
- Your first useful action
- Trading: record one trade and your entry reasoning, then review it after closing. Investing: record an opening balance, one purchase, and why you hold it. Start small and add detail as the habit develops.
Trading Journal
- Create or import a trade
- Add a trade through New Trade. You can also import supported CSV files in Export & Backup: check field mapping and the preview before confirming. This records activity; it does not send an order to a broker.
- Trade review and Quick Review
- In Trade Details, record strategy, plan adherence, exit reason, mistakes, and lessons. Quick Review fills important gaps in closed trades. If you found no mistake, explicitly choose No Mistake Identified rather than leaving the question unanswered.
- Missing Context
- The Dashboard offers recent Real closed trades with missing context, scoped to the selected portfolio or Trading Overview. This is not your entire journal or a complete list of unfinished reviews.
- Rules and Strategies
- Define your own rules and strategies, connect them to planning and reviews, and check whether you followed them. They provide context for your decisions, not recommendations for your next trade.
Analytics & Reviews
- Analytics and Behavior Patterns
- Review your data in the selected portfolio and period. Behavior Patterns connect your recorded context with outcomes. Small samples or missing details mean limited evidence; a pattern is not a prediction.
- Monthly Review
- Choose a month to review results, strategies, and lessons. Complete trade context first. Demo results illustrate the interface only; they are not evidence of your personal performance.
- Outcome is not decision quality
- A profitable trade can be poorly managed, and a losing trade can follow the plan. Review outcomes alongside the process. Trade Quality Score reflects the details you recorded, not a promise of profit.
Investing
- Holdings and transactions
- Record purchases, sales, fees, and dividends to track holdings. These actions update the journal, not a brokerage account. Prices are entered manually; valuations and allocation may be partial when prices are missing.
- Cash
- Record the opening balance, deposits, and withdrawals in Investment Cash. Purchases are checked against the portfolio's recorded cash. Include transactions and fees so the balance reflects your records.
- Thesis and Decision History
- Record why you hold an instrument, your assumptions, and notes along the way. In Holding Details, Decision History shows recorded transactions and notes, not broker activity that has not been imported.
- Plan & Allocation
- Set a goal, planned contributions, and target allocation for the portfolio. Compare the plan with your recorded data. This is a tool for reviewing your choices, not a personalized portfolio recommendation.
Data & Account
- Cloud persistence
- When signed in, core Trading and Investing records sync to the cloud and are separated by user. Pay attention to save and sync messages; if an error is reported, do not assume a change reached the cloud. Beta Guest never saves cloud data.
- Export & Backup
- Export & Backup lets you download supported data. Full Account Backup is a JSON file that excludes Demo and can include local-only sections. Uploading a backup currently validates it and previews contents and conflicts only; it does not restore or change data yet.
- What stays in the browser
- Screenshots are browser-only and do not sync across devices. Temporary Guest use is not a substitute for an account or backup. The privacy policy explains the boundaries of data use.
Planned features
Planned · Not live- AI Coach
- You can prepare a coach profile and personal context. Conversations and analysis through an external AI service are not connected yet. FlinSift is not an investment advice or signals service.
- Broker Connections
- Live broker connections and automatic broker sync are not available. File import is a separate capability. FlinSift does not place orders or execute trades.
- Community
- Community Preview contains fictional learning examples, not public user posts. Profile details can be edited, but other users cannot view your profile, follow you, or receive mentor sharing yet. There is no copy trading.
- Trade import from a screenshot
- Attaching a screenshot does not turn it into a trade. Automatic screenshot-to-trade extraction is not available yet. Planned features have no promised launch date here.
